Flight of the Conchords

Flight of the Conchords have put up a website on the internet. A spokesman from the band (Bret) said it there was a five year delay launching the website online due to a 'disagreement'. Apparently there was debate over how many times letter 'W' should appear in the 'WWW' part of the web address. While Bret wanted four making the domain name wwww.conchords.co.nz Jemaine was vying for seven with wwwwwww.conchords.co.nz. It turns out that you're only allowed three anyway.

»BBC Radio Show to air in New Zealand.

Flight of the Conchords’ 6 part BBC 2 radio series “The Flight of The Conchords” will air on National Radio starting Sunday the 2nd of July. The band officially apologise to fellow New Zealanders for certain inaccuracies in the show with regards to New Zealand. In defence they claim that at the time of recording the were under the impression that the show would only play in Britain. During the recording period they were quoted as saying “no one in New Zealand will ever know ahahahahahaha!!”. The Conchords would like to apologise for the following:

Flight of the Conchords are not from Taranaki, they are from Wellington.
Neil Finn is not from Wellington, he is from Taranaki.
It is stated that Taranaki’s main tourist attraction is the ‘Tunnel of Wasps’. In truth it is only third after ‘The Simulated Cow’ and ‘The Amazing Rock’.
Some New Zealand accents attempted by British actors (episode 6) are inaccurate bordering on racist.

The Series stars Rhys Darby, Rob Brydon, Neil Finn, Andy Parsons, Mike Sengelow, Dan Antopolski, Emma Kennedy, Daniel Kitson, Jimmy Carr, Nina Conti, Greg Proops, Jarred Christmas and Justin Edwards.

Fun Trivia
Dan Antopolski who plays Tim/Bernard in episode two can be seen in recent film ‘The Da Vinci Code’ in a small but significant role. He plays ‘Jesus Christ’.

The Flight of The Conchords BBC 2 Series National Radio Sundays at 2.30 PM.

»Problem with Website discovered.

A catch 22 type dilemna has struck kiwi band Flight of The Conchords in relation to updating the band news on their website. Members of the band (Jemaine and Bret) have noticed that whenever there are doing things that could be reported on the website, they are too busy to update the website. In addition, whenever the band members have some spare time in which they could update the website, there is usually, as one member put it "nothing going on". As a direct result of this problem The Conchords may resort to manufacturing news stories about themselves to bolster news items in less busy times.

»Conchords Develop Powers.

Last week while visiting New Zealand metropolis Palmerston North city, Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement of Flight of The Conchords were exposed to radiation from an explosion at a power generating wind farm leaving them with super powers. McKenzie found that after exposure to the radiation he was able to send text messages with his mind and Clement reported that he was a bit stronger than usual and could lift about three or four more shopping bags than he usually could. But really full ones though. Effects wore off after ten minutes but during that time McKenzie managed to text his mate Dave "HPPY BRTHDY DAV. I M SNDNG THIS USNG MND".

»New Fan Site.

A new unofficial fansite www.conchords.net has been launched making it the third unofficial Conchords related site. It joins www.whatthefolk.net in hosting hundreds of photos from a small but dedicated group of stalkers, many (possibly illegal) downloads and much more information than this, the conchords own official site, does. Another unofficial site www.flightoftheconchords.com has even less information than this, basically a photo, but the guy who runs it seems really nice.

»Radio 2 show available for sale in Britain.

BBC will be releasing the Flight of The Conchords radio show for sale in Britain next month. You can order it online here.

It is a fascinating no-holds barred documentary following the band’s trip to Britain last year with manager Brian Nesbitt in an effort to make an impact in the cut-throat British novelty music scene. It features Daniel Kitson, Jimmy Carr, Mike Sengelow, Nina Conti, Rhys Darby, Neil Finn, yes Neil Finn, Emma Kennedy, Dan Antopolski and Rob Brydon. Last week the show was nominated for a The Comedy Award in the Sony Radio Awards. It might not win though. It might though.

»Flight of the Conchords have one friend and are compared to Beatles yet again.

In a flurry of industrious self-promotional activity, usually shy and lazy New Zealand duo Flight of the Conchords have set up a myspace page. www.myspace.com/conchords When queried, the band stated that they intend to take the same attitude with their myspace page as with their website. That is to update it quite a bit at first and then not as much, and then kind of get into it again and put a few more things on it and then just forget about it for a while and then get into it again. This is seen as a positive move for the band. The page has some gig dates and a demo of their song Foux du Fafa. The popularity of the band has already ensured the Conchords one friend even though the page has only been up a couple of days. Thanks to ‘Tom’.
In a follow up to a story from last October the Conchords have yet again been compared to Legendary British pop group ‘The Beatles’. The other day Jemaine said to Bret "Have you noticed that ‘Clement and McKenzie’ sounds a bit like ‘Lennon and Mcartney’?". Bret replied that he had noticed but was too shy to bring it up because he would sound too full of himself.

»HBO One Night Stand to be repeated.

You can see our half hour special if you live in the States and have tv. Apparently it’s quirky. Here is the schedule.

If you live in New Zealand and wonder why it hasn’t played here yet, it’s because there are so many houses that need to be redecorated that there isn’t much time left on TV for much else.

Email the TVNZ bigwigs if you want to see it. Go on.

»Conchords to open for Bic Runga on her NZ tour.

Flight of the Conchords will open for Bic Runga’s ‘Birds’ tour of New Zealand in March and April. Check her website for details and dates.

»South by Southwest, Austin, Texas. March 10 - 19.

The Conchords will be playing there. Here for details. Performance times TBA (that stands for ‘to be arranged’ but it just saves time to write ‘TBA’).

»Conchords join likes of Led Zeppelin and Phil Collins by having songs tabulated.

A few songs by F o the C (street slang for Flight of the Conchords) have been tabulated and put on this website.

Despite being embarrased about how few chords some of their songs have, the band are pleased at the latest step closer to the ‘next level’. Bret and Jemaine are at currently working on learning to read tablature so that they can play them.

»Conchords compared to Beatles.

New Zealand music duo Flight of the Conchords have recently been compared to legendary British group ‘The Beatles’. On seeing a photo of the kiwi two-some, band-member Jemaine Clement’s grandma said ‘Oh you two look a bit like The Beatles in that one, they used to get really hairy too’. The Conchords said of the comparison ‘It is very flattering, The Beatles were really good’.

»HBO re-runs and Bret scores success with recently purchased jersey.

The Flight of the Conchords episode of One Night Stand will be repeated for those of you with HBO in October and November. In case you don’t have HBO, it will also be appearing on Comedy Central in the near future. The stripey jersey (’sweater’ for Americans and ‘jumper’ for the British) that Bret bought just over a month ago has turned out to be a very succesful purchase. Bret has had 5 compliments on it so far, including three from women. It has also appeared in a photo in Rolling Stone Magazine and also on Late Night with Conan O’Brien. Bret said about the jersey "it’s a great jersey".

»Website News already out of date.

After only being online for a couple of months, the Flight of the Conchords official website has already fallen behind on news updates. Important news missed includes an HBO special, appearances on Conan O’Brien and Craig Ferguson in the States, and four episodes of the in-depth BBC documentary in the U.K.

In other related news it has been decided that the news items will be consistently written in the third person from now on, even though Bret and Jemaine write them themselves. It ‘makes it seem more newsy’.

A new look website is on the way with downloads and stuff like that according to sources.

Contact the F o the C at conchords at conchords dot co dot nz we welcome your suggestions on what should go on the new improved site.
